* Hotel Is Owned By The City.. And They Are Eager For Guests! *

This hotel has apartments with kitchens and they are appropriate for those staying in Moscow for a while. They say that foreigners prefer the 5th and 6th floor. I saw a lot of apartments here. Number 505 was my favorite with a good kitchen that had lots of cabinet and counter space, plus a separate kitchen eating area, a living room, bedroom and bathroom. It is like a home.

Security is good. The metro is about a 10 minute walk. The area is dull and a bit ugly with just apartment buildings in sight and an old church up the road. An entertainment and shopping center is 2 bus stops up the road. The hotel belongs to the government of Moscow.

Each apartment is different. In room 601 I didn't like the bedspread because it was so feminine!

They can register your visa, but they cannot issue the invitation. Parking is available for 70 rubles per day. They are eager to have guests!

Would I Stay Here? I don't know? I couldn't see the rooms.

* A Disappointing Visit *

The Volga was built in 1980 and features 300 apartments. There are two buildings. One is 12 stories. The other is 16 stories. They say they are constantly renovating the rooms. And they have grand reconstruction plans for the hotel. It looks like it will be jazzy. Since I arrived on a Sunday, they said I couldn't see the apartments. I went to the second building and they said the same thing to me. From the brochure photos, it looks like they have at least two apartments that are half-way decent. They have hardwood floors.

The lobby had a bar with attractive fake greenery. An air hockey table was also there. From a hallway that I saw, it looked encouraging for there being good apartments. But the location is not that great in my opinion. I disapprove of this poor attitude toward showing the key product (the rooms/apartments).
