Sovietsky Historical Hotel J +7 (095) 960-2000
www.soveitsky.org
Street Address: 32/2, Leningradsky Prospect - Moscow, Russia
Location: Good. Nearest Metro: Belorussky; it's a bit far away. Staff Speaks English? Yes. Would I Stay Here? Yes. * An Elite Soviet
Hotel * The Sovietsky is a very interesting place to stay. I was immediately impressed with its white marble lobby. The hotel was built in 1951 and it clearly was made to be an elite hotel. I arrived here at 11am on March 26, 2004. A pianist was playing in a first floor cafe area so perfectly. It was wonderful. I saw numerous large marble columns, and sharply dressed hotel staff. Photos of celebrities who had stayed at the hotel were on a wall. The photos included Arnold Schwarzenneger and Chuck Norris. They might have stayed here for the "Planet Fitness" health club, which is in the building. The Sovietsky has a good service attitude and it was no trouble to see the rooms. There is a palace-like 4 story split marble stairwell. Ceilings in the corridors and guest rooms are high. The rooms are vintage - old furniture, old bathrooms. The best rooms have air conditioning and renovated bathrooms. Back to the lobby... it oozes high quality. The first floor has really interesting, elegant surroundings. There is a nice restaurant and an incredible old Gypsy theater. It is beautiful and ornate and in excellent condition. I was quite surprised and impressed with it. A night club and casino is on the bottom floor. Internet access is just $8 an hour, which is cheap for a Moscow hotel. Rooms start at $95 and go up to $187 (as of 3/26/2004), which is a bargain. The Sovietsky is a quality hotel, but remember - these are vintage rooms. It's not the Hyatt. Compared to the Leningradsky Hotel, which is another old, soviet, vintage hotel, the Sovietsky is more attractive and has more quality of life things. (The Sovietsky looks older that its 53 years.)
Hotel Complex Soyuz J +7 (095) 956-2998 www.soyuz.msk.ru Street Address: Levoberezhnaya Ulitsa - Moscow, Russia
Location: Not far from Sheremetyevo 2 Airport. Far from the center of the city. Nearest Metro: Rechnoy Vokzal Staff Speaks English? Yes if you speak slowly. Would I Stay Here? Yes. * Unusual Dining Rooms * The hotel was originally built in 1980 for the Olympic Games. In 2001 it had its last major renovation, but the manager says they are constantly making improvements. There is another Soyuz Hotel that is owned by the Ministry Of Defense. These are two completely different, unrelated hotels, and this one is much newer and nicer. The rooms I saw were nice. I was surprised to see their dining areas. It is like you walk down a little street by different little buildings, and inside is a unique dining area. One was Asian and very attractive. Another room had an Irish pub theme. Another room had a Wild West theme (USA) and another had a Russian theme. And there was one other room. They also have normal dining areas. I saw that a big party was being prepared in one of these areas with lots of balloons. - they had done a great job! Luxury suites have air conditioning and safes. It is a quality hotel. You will probably need a driver to get there. Home Hire A Guide Go To Saint Petersburg, Russia Hotel Reviews Next
