Sherston Hotel
K
+7 (095) 482-1306
Street Address: Gostinichny Prospect, 8 korp. 1 - Moscow, Russia
Location: Fair. Nearest Metro: Petrovsko Razoomovskaya Staff Speaks English? No. Would I Stay Here? Yes, but I would choose others first. There is a wall-hung aquarium in the Sherston lobby. It is about 3 or 4 inches wide and about 55 inches long. I thought that was interesting. Room prices range from 850 rubles to 3630 rubles. As I walked up the stairs to the second floor, I noticed a really old, antique elevator. The second floor corridor had been updated. Lots of old, framed pen & ink illustrations were on the walls. After careful examination, I also noticed that more than one of each hung in the same corridor. (Duplicates.) A key lady is on the second floor. Before being given the facility tour, it was stressed to me that they only had 2 stars, so I was expecting to see a pretty bad place. Room 232 - not bad at all. 2700 rubles. It is a "half lux" with a big jacuzzi tub. Room 211 - really nice luxury suite, but the corridor is crappy! Only part of the second floor hallway has been updated! Room 201 - not bad, new, slight mustiness. Room 202 - nice, not bad at all Room 204 - also not bad, and just 1100 rubles Room 203 - not bad Room 210 - clean, basic, fairly new Room 209 - basic, old, but not bad. 940 rubles Most of these that I saw were in a different second floor section, and the hallway corridor in this area is absolutely old and crappy. I think a lot of people would not be happy to stay here because the hotel still has some very old sections.
Slavyanka Hotel K +7 (095) 681-3159 Street Address: Suvorovskaya Ploshchad, 2 - Moscow, Russia
Location: Good Nearest Metro: Novoslobodskaya Staff Speaks English? No. Would I Stay Here? I don't know. * Unimpressed With Hotel Security. High Risk Of Reservation Cancellation * This hotel is owned by the Ministry Of Defense, which is a little bit funny to me since I was able to walk all over the hotel without permission. Almost the entire hotel is on the junky side. It's old and it shows. There is one small area with a renovated corridor on the fifth floor. I imagine they have nice rooms there. I was unable to see them. They say that when they have military conferences there, then they have to cancel the reservations of foreigners, so the front desk says it isn't a good place for foreigners to stay. Tatiana says it is a good location. Up the street is the old Soviet Army Theater, and down the street is an animal theater. The Olympic Stadium is nearby. I think this hotel would be good for poor students who are willing to rough it. The hotel struck me as very basic and very poor. It appeared to me that some rooms don't have their own showers. And despite having exterior video surveillance and a security guard at the front entrance, I think security is not good enough. A much better hotel in this area is the Renaissance Hotel, which is operated by Marriott.
