* Wonderful Shopping Mall With Many Good Places To Eat And Relax *
* Movie Theater That Shows American Movies In English *
* Close To One Of The Nicest Pedestrian Bridges In The World *

I'm very impressed with the Radisson Slavyankskaya. It is a substantial, high quality 410 room facility with an impressive one story mall integrated into the ground floor. I think this hotel is one of the best deals in its class with room pricing currently $199 to $1499 (as of 3/25/2004). This hotel blows away the nearby Hotel Ukraina.

The Radisson was built 10 years ago and 4 floors have been renovated. On the day of my visit, only one standard room was available for me to see. And the room was of very good quality.

I very much enjoyed this comfortable hotel. For business travellers, they have the most impressive copy/printing center of any Moscow hotel. There are several hundred thousand dollars worth of copying/printing equipment on their second floor. A large part of the second floor has also been turned into an art gallery. On the ground floor there are numerous comfortable areas to sit and relax, including one area by a fountain. There are also numerous places to eat or enjoy a drink, including a brand new sushi restaurant. A fair number of upscale shops are located in the mall section known as "Saint George Street." There is a big 25 meter indoor pool, maybe the biggest hotel pool in the city? There is a medium-sized, but adequate weight room. Upstairs there is a movie theater that plays English language movies.

The Kiev train station is next door and so is the metro. It is possible you could hike your way up to Arbat Street in maybe 30 minutes.

On March 25, 2004 the hotel's 410 rooms were fully booked with the exception of one standard room. A conference being held was titled "Preparing The Next Decade Of US exchanges with Russia," and one of the seminars was "Bringing More Americans To Russia."

* Extremely Impressive. Renovated Rooms Have The City's Second Best Hotel Bathrooms *

The Renaissance Hotel is highly impressive. If you have high expectations of your hotel, then this one worthy of your consideration. Their pricing is competitive compared to others in this elite class.

I was greeted by well-dressed guest relations manager Michael Sergienko as soon as I walked in the lobby. He directed me where I needed to go to get a facility tour, and then a moment later, he stopped by to make sure everything was going smoothly. It wasn't. He took over and did a superb job of showing the hotel. And I was very impressed.

The Renaissance is managed by Marriott. It opened in 1991 and has 475 rooms. They have a good shuttle bus schedule that goes to various places such as Pushkin Square, Red Square and Izmailovo Souvenir Market.

The hotel is very elegant, very clean. The staff is professionally dressed. Classical music was playing during my visit.

The bathrooms in the renovated rooms are fantastic. I think the Hyatt has the best bathrooms and the Renaissance has the second best. The Renaissance bathrooms are gorgeous. Older bathrooms are still fine, but be sure to ask for an updated bathroom.

The Presidential Suite I think is a good value at $1400 (plus 18% tax) compared to other presidential suites at other central hotels. It had multiple large rooms including a really comfortable office and a boardroom/dining room table area and a living room. It's like a house - a great place to hang or throw a party.

The 12th floor is the "Club Level." It is extra secure. Food is waiting for the guests. There are nice lounge areas. It is a very attractive area.

In the building they have a famous bakery. I loved the changing rooms which lead to their 22 meter pool. And I loved the pool. They have a big gym. The hotel has really nice places to eat. They have a movie theater which shows English language films.

As for pricing, they currently, as of March 29, 2004, have a $219 plus tax deal for their standard rooms, which are very good rooms. That is a good value for this kind of hotel in Moscow. Prices change all the time though due to demand and season. So don't count on that rate.

The Renaissance is a fine place to stay.
