* Biggest Casino Inside A Moscow Hotel *

Wow... what a big surprise this hotel is. From the outside it looks like a normal Russian hotel, so my expectations were quite low. But once I got inside I realized that this was no ordinary hotel.

Security is strict. It is like airport security. You must walk through a metal detector and put your luggage and things through a conveyor belt metal detector. I had to take my coat off and run it through the machine. Inside it is like an Atlantic City casino, but without the crowds.

There are a lot of slot machines and a fair number of table games here on two different floors, and numerous attractive bars and restaurants, plus a 6 lane bowling alley (780 rubles per hour) and a lot of pool tables, including Russian billiards. The lowest floor of the casino has a number of oriental eating spots. It seems this hotel actively pursues and welcomes affluent Asians.

The lobby is quite elegant and large. Sounds from a piano filled the air as a pianist played for people at the adjoining, French-ish "Bonjour Cafe." The front desk staff understood English well. They were dressed professionally and conducted themselves as the best in the business do.

The rooms are very good quality. I saw numerous comfortable rooms. The best that I saw was room 1806 - an "Ambassador Room" which had a sauna in the main bathroom, a large bedroom with a large bed, a 27" TV, VCR, stereo, AC, another bathroom and another TV.

Room 1804 was considered a "superior lux" and I loved the room lighting - one of the best lit rooms I've seen in Moscow.

On the 20th floor they have the "Panorama Restaurant." The building is up on a ridge overlooking the city. Guests can have a look through a small telescope for closer viewing.

Moscow State University is nearby, as well as a popular souvenir market. The overlook point there is popular with tourists.

The metro station we used to arrive here was odd. The station is over the Moskva River and we had to walk far up a forest path to come to the main road. It was a long walk, and my two helpers were exhausted by the time we reached the top.

They say it takes about 15 minutes to arrive at the city center if there are no traffic jams. Room prices begin at 95 y.e. for a single on a week day, 105 y.e. for a standard double. Add 20 y.e. if you are there on a weekend. Fancier rooms can go for 340 y.e. and the presidential is 520 y.e.

The hotel seems especially good for rainy days. There is a lot to do here, BUT it is far from the city action.

The Ozerkovskaya opened in 2001 and has 26 rooms. It is located in an office area. Shops are not within an easy walk of the hotel. The rooms have bare hardwood floors, and the rooms are of nice quality. The bathrooms are good. There is nice local art on some room walls. Standard rooms have no AC. But better rooms have air. On the bottom floor is a nice little 3 table bar/cafe. And there is an additional cafe area that is quite private. The hotel was very quiet during my visit and I think this is also a quiet location. It appears this hotel is more suited for business travelers. It's a clean, good place. But you could get more in features at the nearby Katerina City Hotel or Tatiana Hotel.
