Mezhdunarodnaya Hotel J +7
(095) 258-2122
www.hotel.wtcmoscow.ru
Street Address: 12, Krasnopresnenskaya nab., WTC entrance 1 - Moscow, Russia
Location: Superb if you are doing business at the World Trade Center. Nearest Metro: Ulitsa 1905 Goda Staff Speaks English? Yes. Would I Stay Here? Yes. * Super Fast Glass Elevators * If you like intense amusement rides, then you will like the glass elevators at the Mezhdunrodnaya. The hotel has a substantial atrium with a large open space going skywards 9 floors. The glass elevator moved unexpectedly quickly and for someone who has anxiety about heights, they will be in for a shock. I think if you have kids, they will love zooming up and down on the glass elevators. It's like a free amusement ride. But also, the 9 floors of balcony walkways that surround the atrium area makes it easy for a youngster to spit at the people below and hide quickly! At the bottom of the atrium are different lounge areas with nearby shopping mall-like fountains. And there are more fountains in the 2 story shopping mall area, which features numerous attractive restaurants. Some of the restaurants include a really nice looking "China Garden" restaurant; also a nice Japanese restaurant, one called "The British Pub," another one named "Russian Restaurant." There is a small supermarket in the mall, a casino, a shoe shine guy, clothes stores, and easy access to the World Trade Center. The indoor spaces are quite large and you can get a lot of exercise either by walking, or by using the fitness center. The sales manager was off on the day of my visit, so I was politely refused the possibility to see the rooms, but I saw a few anyway thanks to the cleaning ladies. These are nice rooms. I like it here. There are numerous quality restaurants; nice fountains to relax by; paintings were on display in the atrium. The location is good - near the "White House" (where Yeltsin ordered a tank to open fire in 1991). The unusual Hotel Ukraina is across the river. And nearby is a fun casino ship - the Alexander Blok, where you can have a meal in an attractive restaurant right along the river. They advertise themselves as 5 stars? It is nice, but I think 4 stars is probably more appropriate. Prices start at $280, plus 18% tax and go up to $1500 for the Presidential Suite. Breakfast is an extra $13.50 (as of 3/26/2004).
Minzdrava Rossii Hotel x Foreigners not accepted. +7 (095) 457-5271 They don't accept foreigners.
Hotel Minsk K +7 (095) 299-1213 Street Address: Tverskaya 22 - Moscow, Russia
Location: Very Good. Nearest Metro: Mayakovskaya Staff Speaks English? No. Would I Stay Here? No. * Destined To Be Razed * I was not permitted to see the rooms at the Minsk. That translates to: very bad rooms. According to news sources and the Minsk staff, this hotel will be demolished soon. Before this place is knocked down into a giant pile of rubble, guests can have standard rooms beginning at 1300 rubles and renovated rooms can be had for 2000 rubles. But from what the lobby decor tells me, this would be a high risk choice. I'd cross this one off your list of hotel picks.
