Marriott Grand Hotel J
+7 (095) 937-0000 Street Address: Tverskaya 26 - Moscow, Russia
Location: Very Good. Nearest Metro: Mayakovskaya Staff Speaks English? Yes. Would I Stay Here? Yes. Nice, But For The Money,
My visit to the Marriot Grand was March 20, 2004, and they had quite a Saint Patrick's Day party going on. The place was jumping with a very good, high energy rock band! And a lot of people were there. This isn't normal though. I was at the Grand several times in January and it was much, much quieter then. The first room I saw was a standard room and it was quite nice. Rooms that featured twin beds had LARGE twin beds. That's good. I liked the cozy, peach-colored, well-lit corridors. But the bathrooms were not lit appropriately. They should have brighter lighting. I found the bathroom lighting to be sort of gloomy. There are several attractive restaurants in the hotel. I liked the fountain on the ground floor (basement). Guests on the 8th and 9th floor have access to the executive lounge. It's a comfortable little hangout spot with free snacks and things. I liked the kitchen in the Presidential Suite. Overall, the Grand is a good place to stay of course, but I would recommend readers check out the nearby Sheraton Palace. I like it better there.
Marriott Royal Aurora Hotel J +7 (095) 937-0055 Street Address: Moscow, Russia
Location: Excellent. Nearest Metro: Staff Speaks English? Yes. Would I Stay Here? Yes. * Yikes! Another hotel that wants an arm and a leg! I love the atrium restaurant area * Among the three Marriott hotels that are in the center of the city, this one is the nicest. I really liked the corridors with their navy blue carpet and cream-colored walls which feature attractive paintings and good hallway lighting. The first room I saw was a standard room and I was surprised with all that it had. The bedroom and bathroom areas are big! However the next level room I saw was about the same size, but had a smaller bathroom. The rooms are certainly comfortable and well-appointed. It's a classy place. At the bottom of a large atrium is an attractive eating area. As you enter the restaurant you see and hear the sounds of trickling/babbling water in a quiet fountain. That is a nice touch. There are other attractive, comfortable eating areas in the hotel. It's a nice place. I prefer the Ararat Park Hyatt for less money though. As I left, two doormen stood ready to say goodbye. Outside shops and restaurants are everywhere.
