Golden Ring Hotel J +7 (095)
725-0100
www.hotel-goldenring.ru
Street Address: 5 Smolenskaya Street - Moscow, Russia
Location: Very Good. Nearest Metro: Staff Speaks English: Yes. Would I Stay Here? Yes. I Loved, Loved, Loved The "Panorama Restaurant" On The 23rd Floor. Fantastic! The Golden Ring is a classy hotel. Room rates currently range from $240 to $2000 (as of March 21, 2004). They have 247 perfectly comfortable rooms. A doorman greets you at the front door of the hotel. I saw a security guy with a handheld metal detector. The lobby is gleaming and spotless. There is a water fountain that gives the rear lobby area a pleasant ambiance. I saw numerous rooms here. The rooms are fine. The Presidential Suite is quite big. You could throw a party and entertain a fair number of guests. There is a small bar and several hang-out, lounge-like areas in the presidential suite. I found parts of the suite to have gaudy touches. The thing that really made me like this hotel was the Winter Garden on the 22nd floor. It has a greenhouse type of roof with great views. Wow!
But then I was invited to go upstairs... oh wow - this is even better! There is a posh restaurant on the 23rd floor with nice big windows that provide a fantastic panoramic view of the city. If you want to impress a guest, bring them to this restaurant. Here is the number: 725-0214 or 725-0254. The Golden Ring also owns the extremely impressive Baltic Star Hotel in the suburbs of Saint Petersburg.
Gostiny Dom #1 Hotel L +7 (095) 948-9810 Street Address: Skhodnenskaya Ulitsa, 10 - Moscow, Russia
Location: Fair Nearest Metro: Skhodnenskaya Staff Speaks English? No. Would I Stay Here? Probably not. * A Shack In A Poor Neighborhood. Fairly Awful * I saw their best suite, which had its own bathroom and shower. I was told that some cat referees from Belgium stayed here and loved it. I think that is strange. The facility is in an old, poor, quiet neighborhood which made my assistant Tatiana uncomfortable. The hotel is a shack with old wall paper and communal bathrooms for the cheaper rooms. I didn't like it. They encourage foreigners to go to their other location, so we checked it out, and it is much better!
